Geometry of now

A fundamental investigation of sound inside GES-2.

This catalogue and collection of texts was published to accompany the Geometry of Now festival held in the last week of February 2017 by V–A–C Foundation in the decommissioned GES-2 building before the start of its reconstruction.

The Geometry of Now festival focused on the phenomenon of sound as means of expression and brought together over seventy artists, researchers, writers, critics, and curators from around the world. The festival’s programme included installations, visual works, performances, concerts, lectures, and workshops.

For me, music is the geometry of now. I describe it as such not to reinforce any transcendental-like beliefs about time, the self, or music as a universal language, but to advance the view that our experience and interpretation of temporal objects are contextually and culturally specific.

– Mark Fell, excerpt from “Seven Statements in Support of Sound Synthesis”
