Based on a True Story. Theatre in the library

An experience of a collaborative experimental production by contemporary artists and residents of a Moscow district.

The musical and dramatic performance We Go Round and Round in the Night and Are Consumed by Fire is based on the texts of the French writer and philosopher Guy Debord, which are intertwined with stories from the lives of the residents of the Moscow district Krylatskoye. If we combine reports on the daily lives of city dwellers with the revolutionary texts of the Situationists about the playful living of everyday life, what will the result be? The authors are also interested in the collision between the most commercial of theatrical genres (the musical) and Debord’s revolutionary texts. Five months have been allotted for the entire preparation and production of the play directed by Andrey Stadnikov. Composer Dmitry Vlasik and artist Shifra Kazhdan will design the set; the residents of Krylatskyoe are co-authors and performers.

In parallel with the production, the V–A–C foundation invites everyone to take part in the study of public space together with the American artist Suzanne Lacy. Since the 1970s, she has been involved in community art projects based on the active engagement of the public.
