Beat Film Festival has been a fixture in Moscow since 2010 and has become a city-wide event bringing new films about music, contemporary art, media, street culture, fashion, sport and new technologies to people in the Russian capital. The Festival programme includes Russian premieres of outstanding films from major world film festivals, as well as a range of evening events and meetings with film directors, musicians and other representatives of contemporary culture.
The national competition has been an important part of Beat Film Festival since 2015. Its objective is to support documentary cinema in Russia and help young filmmakers who want to explore new domestic culture and open it up to a wider audience. Any author can submit their work for consideration by the Festival committee. The films must be shot mainly in Russia or by a predominantly Russian crew, and the Festival screening must be the work’s Russian premiere.
